Nelson's Theory

Nelson's Theory: the act of naming something after oneself, no matter how trivial, in a selfish attempt to make themselves seem more important.
Nelson's Theory explains why medical textbooks abound with examples of people naming physiological phenomena after themselves. A perfect example is Fowler's position, which is used to describe simply a seated position in in bed.
