Nation State Habitus is the internalized feeling that the state you live in is your state, that its territory is your homeland, that its institutions express your national character. It's the unexamined assumption that French people should live in France, governed by French institutions, speaking French, and that any deviation from this alignment feels wrong. This habitus makes the nation-state seem natural rather than historical, inevitable rather than constructed. It's what produces the visceral discomfort when boundaries don't align with identity—the sense that something has gone wrong with reality itself.
