Nanooked refers to feelings of betrayal and disorientation after a blatant lie about a film or tv show is revealed to a person. This information changes the entire perception of the movie or tv show and often leads to an inability to trust anything. The word is derived from the popular film, Nanook of the North. The film is comprised of scripted and staged scenes carried out by paid actors, little of Nanook can be described as authentic or accurate. Film students are often shocked and taken aback when they learn that director, Robert Flaherty fabricated most of the scenes in the early documentary film. After realizing the film was a fabrication, students often describe their shock and Flaherty's deception as being Nanooked.
