lie by omission

My therapist told me that I don’t lie (make things up that aren’t true). She said that I lie by omission. I don’t talk about important things because of my shame. I don’t talk about things that truly occurred because I fear the emotions that will surface.
She attended the wedding and simply responded “It was beautiful.” She told a lie by omission when she did not mention that there were many unpleasant occurrences.

Lie by Omission

Lying by omission is when a person leaves out important information or fails to correct a pre-existing misconception in order to hide the truth from others. ... Some people view omissions as more than just white lies, but as outright lying, because by omitting information, you're no longer being transparent.
You committed a lie by omission when you planned to move to Florida months early without telling your close friends.
