Lathe Cut is a dubplate where the sound is cut directly into a blank vinyl disc instead of acetate. Lathe cuts are as durable as pressed vinyl records. Lathe cuts can be played thousands of times vs a dubplate which get around 50 plays before the groove is ruined. The sound quality depends on the type of equipment used and skill level of the engineer. Lathe Cuts are considered to be the Polaroid of vinyl because they are instant vinyl records. grebo

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped.
