Island Heights

A sleepy little town located between Toms RIver, NJ and water. 7 minutes from the beach, 8 minutes from downtown and 29 minutes to Central Regional High School, where most kids go to school. With an average of 16 people graduating from the town's grade school, it's safe to say everyone knows each other. People who live in the town leave it for excitement and boredom-release, and those who live within an hour visit the town to feel peaceful. Sailfest, otherwise known as Island height's main event, is a fair along to water with boots to sell things, games, alcohol, and live music occurring the first Sunday of September. Every local school has its own block where the kids can semi privately get drunk and fall down with their classmates. It's an annoyingly great place to raise your kids.
Man: I grew up in Island Heights 20 years ago.
Other Man: oh you must know Kim!
Man: (reluctantly and with resignation) . . . .yes.

Island Heights, NJ

Island Heights is a small, ramshackle community right along the mouth of the Toms River. It's an older area; the homes are a mix of summer-only bungalows, converted summer homes, old Victorian, and suburban style boxes. There is a kind of 'charm' about the town of Island Heights. That sort of sleepy, waterside resort town feel, almost a New Hope, PA; you know, a vintage, new agey kind of walk-about neighborhood. The people? Eh, Not so charming.

Not much to do in Island Heights, except drink, walk around and chit chat with your neighbors, drink, go down to the waterside boardwalk or docks and watch the sun rise, drink, head over to the marina for a meal and some music (for special occasions) and drinks, sit on your boat or your neighbor's boat and rehash the latest town gossip, while drinking; ride your bike around town, shopping at the local corner store, waving to people sitting out on their porches, drinking....

you get the idea.
Island Heights, NJ people (totally white-bread, WASPs) fancy themselves exclusive, 'rich' educated and well bred. However, as they all know - but would never say out loud- that fantasy is just that- a fantasy. They are almost all a bunch of snotty, booze-guzzling wannabes, who really AREN'T as smart, or nearly as rich, or as educated as they want others outside their narrow little Island Heights world to think they are.

A trip to a grocery store, convenience store, or gas station for the sole purpose of buying an excessive amount of junk food and sugary drinks, usually with friends. A chud run often happens late at night and ends with everyone involved hating themselves afterwards.
"Hey bro you tryna go on a chud run with me??"

flophouse

Any house/apartment/frat house/trailer/etc. which is used for individuals to crash (sleep, chill, hang out, lurk, etc.) for a period of time. In order to "crash", one must not actually live there (e.g. have their name on the lease, own said flophouse, etc.). Flophouses are typically used by college students, drug addicts, transients, vagrants, or other unsavory characters.

A flophouse may also be the home owned by the parents of a college student, who after being away at college, wishes to live as if he/she is still at college (e.g. staying out all night, returning just to crash at mom and dad's house, then leaving again), rather than conforming to the pre-college rules.
Example #1
Dude: (Talking to someone passed out face first on the floor of his college apartment) Hey man, who the hell are you? What do you think this is, a flophouse??

Bro: Sorry dude, I must have passed out for a minute.

Example #2
Mom: Where have you BEEN for the last three days? You come home just to sleep?? What do you think this is, a flophouse??!!

Son: What's your problem? I'm an adult now!

Hate Sink

A person you hate intensely not because they deserve such hatred but because they serve as a focus for your general hatred. A healthy way to dispense with excess animosity.
Jake's not really that big an asshole. He just serves as my hate sink.
