She is taken in by the Ouran High School Host Club (the Host Club is made up of "wealthy boys with time who entertain wealthy girls with time... It is an elegant game unique to this school") after breaking a vase valued at eight million yen ($80,000 U.S.). The manga/anime details daily adventures of the club, including dances, festivals, rivalries, character histories, etc. It is a shojo that is more comic than romantic, and can make fun of itself and its genre.
