Driver: What?

Hang a lantern

To point out some inconsistency in order to allow for its acceptance and to move things along. This is a common plot device in the entertainment industry, in which the entertainers give some sort of wink or nod that allows the entertained to suspend disbelief of some unthinkable feat and carry on with minimal interruption.

Feeling whiney and knowing that he was partaking in the practice of Vaguebooking, Tom was sure to hang a lantern on it by adding a #Vaguebooking hash tag to his post.
