Ginger Spice was the famous moniker for Geri Halliwell during her
time with the Spice Girls. Born in 1972, Geri was the oldest of the Spice Girls. The Spice Girls were formed in 1994 under the name Touch. After their renaming in 1996, they released their debut song "Wannabe" which went #1 in 22 countries, including the USA. The Spice Girls gained international success in 1997, with Geri considered the ring leader. After she left in 1998, she pursued a solo career. Her first solo album, "Schizophonic", was released in 1999. The first
single, "Look At Me" was a #2 hit in the UK. The following singles, "Lift Me Up", "Mi Chico Latino", and "Bag It Up", were all #1 hits in the UK. Her sophomore album, "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster", was released in 2001. The lead
single, a cover of the Weather Girls' 1982 hit "It's Raining
Men", was Geri's most successful
single, going #1 in 28 countries. Subsequent singles included "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster" (#7) and "Calling" (#8). In 2005, she released her third album, "Passion". The lead
single, "Ride It" hit #4 on the UK charts. The second
single, "Desire" only reached #22 and other single releases from "Passion" were cancelled. In 2006, she gave birth to her first
child, a
girl she named Bluebell Madonna Halliwell. Currently, Geri is working on her fourth album and is a United Nations advocate for the prevention of breast cancer. All in all, Geri has had the most successful solo career of all the Spice Girls.
