Ferrari effect

Brand loyalty, regardless of quality differences. Buying a potentially inferior product for reasons other than suitability for a particular purpose, such as for personal image or self-esteem.

May not necessarily apply to Ferrari, since they are often sold as status symbols as well as higher performing vehicles.
"Near the end of those four years, once people don't think Radeon is worse than nVidia, that's when the Ferrari effect would matter. But it doesn't matter if people think badly of your brand." - Moore's Law Is Dead

Ferrari effect

The Ferrari effect is when a sports athlete moves to the most successful team, only to fail
Lewis Hamilton is the most recent driver to fall victim to the Ferrari effect. Having no podiums besides a sprint victory in China, struggling to cope with the teams incompetence.
