Kickass thrash
metal band from the bay area. Formed in 1980, they were a hell of live act but delays in the release of their debut album, Bonded by Blood, probably prevented them from reaching a bigger audience. Kirk Hammett was a founding member of the band before moving on
Metallica. Unlike
Metallica and Megadeth, Exodus never changed their sound to appeal to a wider crowd (although they were disbanded for much of the 90s and early 2000s).
Exodus has had three different vocalists over the band's existence. The first, Paul Baloff, was only around for the 1982 demo and BbB. The second,
Steve Souza (well known in
metal circles), did five studio albums with Exodus before leaving in
2004. The third and current vocalist, Rob Dukes, has appeared on the past four Exodus recordings (including a remake of Bonded by Blood). Dukes, for whatever reason, is pretty unpopular amongst Exodus fans, due to his limited vocal range and fairly generic voice (and the fact that he used to be in a
hardcore band).
