Doom Pop
A style of music pioneered by Jim E. Brown. It utilises 80s style drums, synths and guitars which have seen a recent ressurgence in popularity with artists like the weeknd. Doom Pop distinguishes itself, however, with its philosophical depth. Thematically, the songs reflect on the cruelty of existence, the plight of small animals, the characteristics of consumptional escapism (particularly alcoholism or binge eating disorder...), and the oroboric cycle of overconsumption, regret and subsequent overconsumption.
I feel like Jim E. Brown and the Doom Pop movement are the only ones capable of articulating the sadness present in late capitalist societies.
