Crawl into your shell
To “Crawl out of your shell” means when you have been confident enough to partake in social events and become more socially active. To “Crawl back into your shell” means that something or (someone) has traumatized you enough to make you stop interacting less with other people and stay to yourself, in other words become more of an introvert. You stop partaking in conversations or you are less confident to speak in a group or anything of that sort.
Crawl into your shell: Meaning to become more of an introvert and stay away from people and including yourself less in conversations.
Joe: You know Andy was just starting to crawl out of his shell and become more open to talking to his peers. This his grandma who he was very close with passed and he crawled back into his shell, we haven’t heard from him since.
Devotion: Yea I don’t remember the last time I spoke to him, I’ve tried including him in conversations but he was very closed off and didn’t want to be bothered. I hope he feels better soon.
