noun: The noble, honest and determined search for knowledge and truth that can benefit all mankind especially where that search involves the application of scientific methods. It is the complete opposite of malignorance.
adj: benefiscient
A person who questions all 'facts' and remains open to all possibilities as they search for knowledge through the application of acceptable scientific methods and with the ultimate goal of enlightening mankind and improving the quality of life through their discoveries can be said to be practicing benefiscience. His contributions to the world are truly benefiscient.
