Bench Knocking:noun; The mechanical skill of tapping, hitting or smacking some mechanical or electrical device into working properly.
It is well known amongst the mechanically inclined as a skill and is much more than luck....although it adds to one's cool.

Tommy knocking is the act of knocking on somebody's window, to see if anyone's home and proceeding to rob the place if it appears vacant.
