When applied to a male, it is generally a backhanded compliment. Somewhat interchangeable with Stud but condescending.
When applied to a female it's generally an insult, but sometimes (more often of late) can have that backhanded compliment as above. Particularly between female friends and often associated with a bit of jealousy or envy.
Another definition (female) can be private, a woman can be a slut for her significant other, yet to all the rest of the world is a perfect lady.

It is a woman that embraces, nay, celebrates her sexuality in a completely uninhibited fashion, gleaning every bit of pleasure for herself and her partner.
