Without even recognizing how it happened, they wake up one morning ready to buy something they don't need, or ready to take action on behalf of a cause or a political party. No longer in control of their own choice-making, they are now at the mercy of the individual and/or organization that is funnelling their consciousness.
My friend eventually realized that someone with access to his devices was funnelling his consciousness for nefarious purposes.
