Normally said for Cristiano Ronaldo Fans or Messi haters, they will say this for him rigging many things, such as trophies, individual awards, or stats.
This phrases hasn't been very much popular in the football world until after the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar, which Lionel Messi and Argentina remained supreme and won the coveted title. The Argentine National Football Team, and specifically Messi, were being criticized for having an excessive amount of penalties given during the tournament. They had a whopping 5 penalties in 6 games. The most in World Cup history since 1966.
After this moment occurred, many fans have criticized Messi for having many penalties, saying they were "rigged" or "undeserved".
