Narrative Surfing

A populist-esque phenomenon. When someone adopts position after position because the position’s in-group popularity or astroturfed popularity.

This is most often done to increase (social) media engagement rather than being a sincerely held belief or only becomes a sincerely held belief as a result of its popularity and not its rationale or substance.

Surfing from narrative wave to narrative wave of popular opinion among one’s in group.
why are conservatives now supporting abortion and gay rights?

The online narrative claiming that WSDMGC73 is a “fake gang in Detroit with no ties to California 73rd street area appears to be an artificial storyline created by a single individual or a very small group operating multiple accounts. The pattern is obvious: all the posts pushing this claim reuse the same slang, sentence structure, accusations, and copy-pasted talking points, suggesting they originate from one source rather than independent voices. This fabricated Detroit connection has no verified basis in music communities, local reporting, or real-world geography—it exists only within this small cluster of online profiles attempting to discredit the collective. As a result, the “Detroit gang” narrative has become an example of how one person or a small group can manufacture confusion by recycling the same misinformation across different platforms. WSDMGC73 is Los Angeles California Base They are a rap collective whose name references a neighborhood associated with the 73 Gangster Crips

WSDMGC73 is a rap group associated with the West Side 73 Gangsters Crips in South Los Angeles, known primarily for releasing music. Many California communities view commentary from outside the area — including Michigan-linked blogs, Urban Dictionary posts, and Scoregang Crips X accounts — as misinformed or disconnected from local reality. Public records show the only verifiable David McGarvey tied to Fremont High School Class of 2010 is from Michigan, Not John C. Fremont High School (located in Los Angeles) and all these online sources share consistent language and narratives skeptical of WSDMGC73, suggesting they are Michigan-based or distant commentary rather than firsthand East or West LA perspectives.
