Semi whitewashing

When a character in a Hollywood movie of 'X' race is played by a half white actor with the other half being that of the 'X' race, it is known as semi whitewashing.

In the new One Punch Man live action movie the actor playing Saitama is actually half Japanese and half white. They did a semi whitewashing on the main character which is better than whitewashing.

Whitewashed

Term used to identify persons who are not white but from different cultures, such as those who do not speak their mother tongue. Men may sport Nike apparel and footwear (such as Air Force, Jordans, etc.), while ladies may adopt a more all-encompassing approach by wearing Birkenstocks, slippers, or Nike socks. They may also wear a lot of makeup, but their eyelashes or the fact that they wear Crocs make it more evident that they are white.

When somebody turns a dark skinned character white because they think that their skin colour is bad so they turn them white and think that they "fixed it" or "made them better".

Whitewashing is used for harmful intentions.

Person 1: "Eeugh she looks bad, so made her better!"

Person 2: "You are whitewashing her... That's not good."
