Protopunk

Retrospective term to describe music that influenced what would be coined as punk rock. It tended to be somewhat more aggressive than its contemporaries and often had anti-authoritarian themes.Such music included, The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, bands on the Nuggets compilation, The Sonics, The Seeds, The Monks, Patti Smith, The Dictators, New York Dolls, MC5, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Neu!, etc. Not all influences of punk rock bands can be called protopunk. For example, Crass was influenced by experimentalist compser, John Cage, but nobody would call him a protopunk artist.

Iggy Pop got his start in a protopunk band called The Stooges.

Civil Protection

Civil protection, a.k.a. metro police, are the worst a-holes in the half life universe. They kick down your door, they beat the crap out of you, and are generally unpleasant. IS WHAT I WOULD HAVE SAID IF I WAS A STUPID, NO-BRAIN REBEL!!!
The metro police are the nicest in city 17, they'll always be right beside you, always protecting you, always saving you from stupid headcrabs trying to bite your head off!! They're the best!!!

Edgerton Protest

A "protest" that occurred at Edgerton High School which was against bullying but in reality was because of a cat fight. The "protest" consisted of scumbags, idiots, swagfags, and the most ironic part, bullies. The people here either just wanted to skip school, friends of the girl who was in the cat fight, or they were oblivious to the truth behind the protest. After the protest people started posting on Facebook about it either saying the protest was a bunch of crap (the smart ones) or a bunch of idiots who were whining because the majority of the school thought they were idiots.

*Conversation heard while watching the Edgerton Protest*

Person 1: Look at those idiots out there freezing... this is all about the cat fight anyways!

Person 2: Yeah I know...

Idiot: Umm some of those people are my friends and this is fighting bullying!

Person 1: Then why aren't you out there?

*Minute Bell rings*

Idiot: Oh got to go to class! Sorry *flees*

Likely taken from GamePro magazine, which used the term as early as 1989 in conjunction with screengrabs of video to capture reader's attention to offer advice on completing video games and tying the term into the publication's title.

Protip: Don't raise your voice or joke about guns at the security station in an airport: you're asking for trouble if you do.
