Possum Kicking

The act of grabbing a twelve pack of beer and hitting the back roads and driving until you find a Possom. Once one is found, you shine a bright light on the animal and then kick it. This sport is popular in the agricultural parts of society.

My feet hurt because I went Possum kicking with no shoes on!

Interjection. Similar to: alrighty, awesome, schweet, coolz.

Mild & amiable in tone. Used in affirmation, agreement, or as a pleased reaction to something.

Often used as a reply to the word "awesome."

Brad: Want to go into the creepy haunted house with me?
Janet. Sure.
Brad: Awesome.
Janet: Awesome possum.

A person whose roots are Appalachian, but who has gone on to become educated while still appreciating his or her mountain roots. Coined by Jane Hicks in the poem "How We Became Cosmic Possums" and referred to in Sharyn McCrumbs's novel, "The Songcatcher".

JohnBoy of the old TV show, "The Walton's" was the first cosmic possum.

1. The collective of people from the backwoods, swamp regions, country, or otherwise rural areas that possess possum-like attributes, i.e. long frame, thin face, close eyes, and long nose.

2. Those that might possess the physical attributes of an inbred population.

3. Those that rarely enter heavily populated areas, only purchases beer and ammunition, and quickly retreats to their native area.
