Evidence Bigotry

A specific form of Proof Bigotry centered on the demand for “evidence” rather than “proof,” though the effect is the same: whatever the target offers is declared insufficient, and the target themselves is pathologized. The evidence bigot often combines evidentiary demands with psychiatric slurs: “show me evidence or it’s delusional,” “that’s pseudoscience, you need a psychiatrist,” “you’re almost schizophrenic for believing this.” The goal is to make the target’s worldview seem not just unsupported but clinically disordered. Evidence bigotry weaponizes the language of science and mental health to delegitimize entire traditions and identities.

Example: “When she shared her indigenous healing practices, he replied: ‘Show me evidence or it’s delusion. You might be schizophrenic.’ Evidence bigotry: demanding RCTs for cultural practices while pathologizing the practitioner.”

Medical Bigotry

Systemic prejudice within healthcare systems that leads to discriminatory diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes based on a patient's race, gender, disability, socioeconomic status, or perceived credibility. It goes beyond individual bias to include institutional practices, diagnostic criteria, and research gaps that systematically disadvantage certain groups. Also called Scientism: The dogmatic, uncritical belief that the scientific method is the only valid form of knowledge and can, in principle, answer all meaningful questions. It is an ideological overreach that dismisses the value of ethics, philosophy, art, history, and lived experience. This bigotry often comes with a hierarchy that views physics as "harder" (and therefore superior) than sociology, and views all non-scientific frameworks as inferior or merely "subjective opinion." It fails to see science as a powerful but limited tool within a broader humanistic enterprise.

Example: A science bigot declares, "If you can't measure it, it doesn't exist," thereby dismissing love, beauty, justice, and meaning as irrelevant illusions. They argue morality should be solely derived from evolutionary psychology, or that consciousness is "just" neural activity, not recognizing that the "just" smuggles in a reductionist philosophy, not a scientific fact. Psychological Bigotry

The pervasive bias that equates mental health diagnoses with diminished credibility, rationality, or moral agency. It operates on the assumption that if someone has a psychiatric label (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder), their perceptions, memories, and opinions are inherently less reliable or valuable. This leads to "diagnostic overshadowing," where any physical symptom a patient with a mental health history reports is automatically attributed to their psychology, often with tragic medical consequences.
