In my understanding, it sounds like when you read a book, watch a movie, and, in principle, do something new, at first it was as if you drank soda, enjoying the taste.
But then everything goes almost the worst way, it hurts like you swallowed a sword. But you keep going anyway, because you like it, and you can't give up the story of these characters and themselves.
I think it could be synonymous with obsession.
(this is my project work, which I have to hand over in two weeks.
I would be very glad if you could help to promote this slang expression a little bit, awesome users:)).
