At the age of 8, his mother nick named him 'snoopy' (Snoopy and Peanuts) because his eyes appeared the same as the lovable TV character. Snoop is known best as a MC of West Coast Hip Hop, starting the genre of music G FUNKwith Dr. Dre.
Snoop took the name "Snoop Doggy Dogg" when he began recording, but changed it to Snoop Dogg in 1996 when he left his original label Death Row Records and signed with No Limit Records.
