A choice between an alternative that is awful and one that is unacceptable. Usually defined as "no choice at all," since one of the choices is likely to be totally unacceptable (death, starvation, death of a loved one held hostage, insolvency).
A person whose relatives have been taken hostage is faced with the Hobson's choice of rewarding someone who attacked his family, and having his relatives killed because of decisions he made.

Get the weapon of choice mug.A play of words based upon the card game by the same name. Used when posed with a question, with at least more than one option to choose from, and no care as to which one is chosen by said questioner. Usually used when presented with the option for various goods, but can be used for more abstract concepts as well.
Ex 1:
Bartender: what can I start you off with? We've got some good IPAs, maybe a couple of shots to start off strong or perhaps a glass of whiskey?
Patron: Tell ya what, I'm not sure, so dealer's choice. What do you recommend?
