gaining social benefits is acheivable through being seen with cool, popular people. for example, when seen in pictures with them, talking to them or sitting in their group, you are admired. some only associate with the elite clique to obtain social benefits and be recognised as one of them. to some, these benefits are the only real connections between them and their 'friends'.
