keepin' it real

A philosophy and identity concept that arouse in hip-hop culture, and followed primarily by African-Americans.

"keepin' it real" is an expression of living only for instant gratification and lack of desire for more. Only the most basic animalistic tendancies are to be acted apon. Lust and anger are the primary emotions. Drinking alcohol and smoking weed are the main hobbies.

Recieving welfare while working as a criminal is one of the few ways to make money while being "real". The other are playing sports such as basketball and football, or working in the entertainment industry.

Jail time is status quo to the point that having never been to jail is mark of weakness in the eyes of those embracing this concept.

The only thing that changes with any certainty is the slang.
Behavior Example:
Showing up to a job interview in baggy ripped pants and a XXXL basketball jersey then complaining the reason he were not hired is discrimination.

Example1:
PersonA: "So are you planning on graduating from high school and attending college?"

BrainwashedYouth: "Hell na, I ain't going to no mafuckin school n shit, I'm keepin' it real!"

Example2:
BrainwashedYouth: "yo nigga whur u be goin?!?"
AfricanAmericanHonorStudent: "Going to class, I have a test in Trigonomery."
BrainwashedYouth: "yo wut u talkin 'bout mufucka? u sposed to be some mufuckin white boy?!?! yo lets mob dis foo!"
*HonorStudent beaten and/or shot*

Example3:
(An African-American man and woman on a first date):

EducatedAfricanAmericanMan: "I have an MBA, own my own home, and have never been to jail."

BrainwashedAfricanAmericanWoman: "Sheet nigga u cant be
my soulja! U aint even really black! I be needin me a man dats keepin' it real!"

keep moving

A commonly used cigar, that can be bought at almost all convience stores, and is used in rolling blunts. In some areas this is the standard cigar for blunts however it is often a debate of choice between keep movings and phillies. It is sometimes said that it is harder to cut and roll a keep moving than a philly. Almost all the time keep movings are never bought for smoking as is, if you see someone buy one or two you can be sure that they are going to be smoking marijuana. Sometimes, if you are in a convience store and you see someone buying one it is acceptable to exclaim some undesireable/ embarassing comment at the purchaser. However this should be a quick comemment that does not engage a conversation or fully exploit the buyer. It should never be a derogatory comment or something that could merit an ass kicking. If there is a cop in the store then you should not even say a word. Cashiers almost always suspect the smoking of marijuana when one is bought.

Sometimes said as "Keep movin'"
Buyer: " I need 6 keep movings "
Some Dude: "HOLY SHIT! I want to smoke with you"
Buyer " Shh.. I only got a zone"

Keep bombin' that shit

To do what you do (used in a positive manner.)

Such as,
When you are good at a game, for instance, you can use "Keep bombin' that shit" to yourself for self-confidence, etc.

If you are to use it to peers, you can use to encourage their good work.

What it should not be used is for when you mean it negatively, such as when your friend does horribly on a test, you say "Keep bombin' that shit and you wont go to college." This is a taboo.

Keep bomin' that shit is used for POSITIVE MANNER.
"Damn, I'm not myself today... I keep dieing on this damn level."
"Don't worry breh, I know you're good at these stuff, just keep bombin' that shit, and you'll get there."
"Shit, you're right, thanks for the encouragement."

Keep it 110

A term used to describe the dividing line between the appropriate amount of money spent on polos versus shoes. In other words, a polo that costs more than $110 should not be bought, since anything over $110 is considered "kick money." That being said, any polo costing less than $110 is acceptable and does not violate the rule of keeping it 110. Someone who keeps it 110 will spend $110 or above on shoes, while spending less than $110 on polos (including Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, or any other brand that typically costs around $70/polo).
Mom: Hey son, how was the mall?

Son: Straight; I bought a pink RL polo for $70 at Macy's, then I went over to Finish Line and copped me some new J's for $150. You already know I gotta keep it 110.

Keeping it real

It’s an ignorant saying used by a person that is rude and not tactful. But the person tries to make their rudeness acceptable by saying they are just “keeping it real” or “Just being honest”. But in reality the person is accepting only the opportunities and rules taught to them by other ignorant people. Its all a lie, because if a person really “keeps it real” then that person would not wear deodorant, would not bath or wash. etc (because that is truly keeping it real).
A woman walks down the street wearing a hair weave and fake nails. Then she runs into her friend and says, "Yeah its true. I got fired, but I told off my boss again. You know I'm keeping it real."

keepin' it real

To reach the boundaries of over-reacting, while maintaining sensibility. "Keepin' it real" should only be brought into action when something personal is being attacked, such as one's manhood, one's mother, one's moral code, etc.

Violence is necessary.
Guy : Bitch, what'd you just say to me?
Woman : I said your mother is an ersatz Harriet Jacobs.
SLAP
Guy : Bitch, I told you to shut your wiki-educated mouth. I'm keepin' it real 24-7.
