Momentum Shift

The moment during a particular sporting event, particularly table tennis when the god of momentum makes a stark decision as to who he wants to win. If he chooses the opposing player this is defined as a momentum shift and is crucial in defining the outcome of the match.

Sam: 'you're so lucky, you didn't deserve that point at all'!
Will: 'thats a definite momentum shift-the god has sided with me'!

A-Shift

1 of 3 shifts used in fire department scheduling. It is by far better than the other 2 shifts with the best firefighters to do the job right the first time. If your house is on fire pray that A-shift is working if you would like your house to be saved. If your house ends up in the basement it's probably because B or C shift showed up.

Person 1: "Thank god B-shift was working to save my house and my family, We owe those guys our lives!"
Person 2: “A-shift is God’s gift to man kind!”

Blue shift

An excuse to talk your way out of a ticket for running a red light. Unfortunately, your speeding ticket will be astronomical.

(If you don't get it, you're probably not going to get it.
Maybe look it up in a real dictionary first).

Officer: May I see your license and registration sir?
* you hand him the materials *
Officer: Do you realize that you were speeding and ran a red light?
You: Well, I'll admit to speeding but I'm not sure about the red light.
Officer: It sure looked red to me!
You: Not to me! Maybe I was going fast enough such that the blue shift rendered the... what I'm assuming was a red light... Blue! (or more conservatively, yellow).
Officer: I suppose it's all relative.
You: Exactly.
