Yet another tradition originated from the ghetto, then abondoned by the ghetto, and picked up by the lame white boy preps that cant come up with anything original. popped collars are usually worn with polos.

A way to wear your collar to protect the neck from the sun while playing sports such as tennis or golf. Worn by true preps and once the norm in the 80s when everyone wore preppy clothing but has since been rejected by society because obnoxious frat boys or 'gangsters' wear them.
Some true preps still wear them this way, while some preps find this tacky. Most others think that if you wear a popped collar, you are snobby and stuck up. But to really judge if a person is or not, you must converse with them and actually get to know the person.
