capoeira

Afro-brazilian martial art of unclear origin. Many believe that it was an adapted fighting style, hidden behind the guise of dance to fool captors due to the learning of self defense amongst slaves was forbidden (since they did not want the slaves to present a threat to them, or to injure themselves and thus become uneconomical); or merely the adaption of the 'Lions Dance' - a ritual performed in certain parts of africa during the rite of ascention when a boy became a man (to atract females through prowess and physical ability) and still others believe other things. There is numerous evidence for and against each theory presented. What we do however know is that Capoeira is a graceful art, half fighting and half dancing, closely linked to the learning and performance of not only the lethal attacks, the mind-defying 'style moves' and the playing of instruments: such as the berimbau (long, wooden, single-stringed instrument with a gourd near the bottom played by striking the string).

We're holding a Capoeira demonstration at the beach this Sunday. Bring a friend.

UC Chabot

Chabot Community College, in Hayward, California, which is often sarcastically referred to as UC Chabot by locals.
Essentially a cesspool of losers, save a few that were unfortunate to be denied entrance to any other college in high school and will actually manage to transfer out.

HS student 1: Hey guys, where are you going to college next year?
HS student 2: UCLA ftw!
HS student 3: Yale.
HS student 4: .....UC Chabot.
HS student 1, 2, and 3: Pwned.

Al Capone

Powerful gangster of the 1920-30's who ran a successful, illegal bootlegging operation. Oddly, he was eventually taken down for income tax evasion in 1931.

My great-grandfather met Al Capone in an elevator once. He got the hell out on the next floor though.

Chaco

1. An ancient puebloan culture centered in what is now the Four Corners region of the American Southwest.

2. A brand of outdoor footwear, best known for their river sandals. Some people would say Chacos are how you tell a real outdoors person from a poseur who may be wearing some other type of sandal. Chacos are generally available only from specialty paddling and outdoor specialty shops such as The Trailhead in Buena Vista, Colorado.

Seth - "That dude must be a real river guide."
