Skaters (skateboarding)

A skater is someone who knows how to ride a skateboard around. They don’t have to know how to do any tricks to be a skater, it can just simply be their hobby. Though most beginner skaters are the ones who do not know many tricks, there are also long-time skaters that just like to cruise around rather than trickskate. How many tricks they know does not determine how much time they have skated. For example, many skaters take breaks from the hobby to focus on other things. Skaters may wear shoes such as Vans, DCs, Nike, Adidas, etc. You don’t have to wear a certain shoe to be a skater, although skate shoes are made for the hobby and may work better for you. Poser Skaters are people who tend to make fun of beginners, and skate only just to become popular or look cool. Whether they’re good or bad skaters, they are still a poser. That is what posers do, pose for attention. You may see posers wearing Thrasher or Vans. A lot of real skaters wear both of those too, there is no way to determine a poser skater just by what they wear.

New Skater: I only know how to ollie, but I try my best everyday to learn more!
Poser Skater: Really? I know how to ollie, grind, AND kickflip. I learned in only 1 week! LOL get on my level!
Long-time Skater: Hey you, do you even know what you are talking about? Skating is made to be fun or to ride around faster, it is not a competition!

Skateboarding is an art form extremely difficult to perform. Its not a sport, even though there's "balls" involved. Those who can, do. Those who can't, rollerblade and then talk smack! Wow, how cool their little booties look on their feet as they hop and skip around. Since when has putting skates on your feet and "exercising" around the park ever been cool?

Yo dude, I was skateboarding my arse off, pullin' off some insane moves in front of the Betty's down at the park, when this douchebag rollerblader swung through being pulled by a gay guy on a 10 speed bike. I think he was asking if he could pull him into town for some free lessons in being a cage fighter.

Strictly speaking, the act of personal locomotion on a four-wheeled board is not a crime in any jurisdiction in the United States. However, many cities have outlawed skateboarding on public edifices because it results in destructive grinding and causes injuries, the costs for both of which are borne by the taxpayer.

Furthermore, the culture associated with skateboarding youth is widely held to be a celebration of delinquency: marijuana use, rebellion against authority, truancy, and other problems are known to be prevalent in these juvenile populations. While this is no reason to discriminate against skateboarding in general, it sure doesn't help the image of the activity in the public's eye.

(A boy, about 12 years of age, with long bleached hair and extremely wide corduroy flare pants, is recklessly grinding his way down the outdoor staircase in front of Town Hall on a skateboard.)

Police Officer: "Young man, did I just see you skating down that marble staircase?"

Boy: (stares sullenly at ground) "Skateboarding is not a crime."

Officer: "Take those headphones off while I'm talking to you. Now what does that sign say right there?"

Sign: "Skateboarding on Town Hall property is subject to max. fine of $250 or 90 days in jail by order of City Rev. Code 08-2776."

Boy (fidgeting): "I dunno. Skateboarding is not a crime."

Officer: "And what's this? Did I just see a dime bag fall out of your pocket?"

Boy (crying): "Skateboarding is not a crime."
