A scene in a series, usually one with a focus on fighting or competition, wherein a character established for being among the series' strongest characters is defeated- often effortlessly- by an antagonist. A Vegeta Moment is used to show a viewer just how strong a character is- usually the
main antagonist, but sometimes other characters- by having them defeat a
well-established powerhouse. The
name of this trope comes from Vegeta, a powerful character from the Dragon Ball franchise who often loses against the antagonists of the series'
main sagas.
1: "Isn't that one of the protagonist's rivals? Why is his
first round opponent the antagonist and not the protagonist?"
2: "They'
re probably using him for a Vegeta Moment."
1: "That does make sense."
