Meshuggah were so good last night, they kept on johanning through Bleed even though both guitarists' effects pedals broke and they had to use unprocessed clean-tones, the drummer left halfway through for a dump but still kept on playing, the shouter self-immolated and the stage collapsed. Not one note out of place - and they used every note on the 8 strings at least once in the solo, which was a perfectly ruined chromatic improvisation, compared to the written, carefully considered album solo. Oh you really must see them live Betty - it's truly marvellous! Bravo Meshuggah!

Without destruction there can be no creation. Beautiful and powerful this God lives for combat and to see his enemies driven before him. As the strongest of the old Gods and the most devoted to mankind, he alone was powerful enough to make the ultimate sacrifice a God could make. In order to make ensure that mankind could not be destroyed by the other Gods and to aid mankind when others would not he gave up his divinity and was bound in human form. As long as he endures this curse mankind will never fade from the earth.
As a mortal he will experience countless pains and suffering endlessly being reincarnated only to be tormented over and over again as the other gods wait for his spirit to extinguish so that they may wipe humanity from the earth. Much as he did in the early days when chaos reigned and monsters still walked the land he protects his children with his own body. Though his form may vary this God will always be recognizable by those who know what to look for. His spirit feeds all of mankind and gives them passion and courage to face the unknown. When mankind huddled in their dens of mud fearful of the world and its dangers it was Johanne that gave them fire, taught them the ways of war, and gave them the courage to face the darkness and scream out a challenge.
