Fluttermort

The small moment of imagining the worst possible scenario when hearing a scary unknown sound or when about to do something slightly dangerous. Various and vivid scenes of horrible injuries, catastrophic accidents, and bodily harm play like a recording in one's mind in this instant. These images appear because of humanity's natural inclination to worry and also from basic instincts to use fear as a tool for survival. The feeling is usually also accompanied by an electric feeling in the stomach or chest, acting almost like a biological danger alarm. When an individual gets this feeling, it usually means they are about to make a poor choice or that danger is afoot. Sometimes there is no actual danger and instead the body is being too cautious for it's own good. However, more than a few times, it has saved the skin of many people who would otherwise have been in mortal danger.

I heard a noise last night and had the worst fluttermort. Turns out it was just my cat.
