The attempt to provide assistance or concern, without really meaning it or having the intention to follow through. By saying the acceptable or possibly "expected" comment, it removes the temporary guilt, that the speaker feels.

Attention syndrome

When a girl or a boy says some gay autistic shit to get attention from people, they have attention syndrome. An example is when a fairly decently pretty girl says "I'm ugly" so that boys can say she's not.

She says she's ugly but she's not. She obviously has attention syndrome.
