Furlough Beer

Beer that is consumed by students of the California State University system when their class(es) have been subjected to mandatory furloughs.

Furlough Beer often leads to more drinking of beer that is technically Non-Furlough. However, a strong argument can be made that any and all beer consumed from the start time of the first furloughed class to the start time of the next non-furloughed class is still technically Furlough Beer.

Pace Beer

The beer one drinks between beers to maintain a healthy pace. By allowing the time it takes to drink a beer (and doing so with a pace beer) between drinking actual beers, one can ensure that he/she is not drinking actual beers too quickly.

flagship beer

This is the beer that is most identified with any particular micro, craft or regional brewer. Usually it is the first beer, or one of the first beers the brewery made when they began their business. Although a flagship beer can be any style of beer, it is often one popular with a majority of beer drinkers. Occasionally, a brewery will have more than one flagship beer. Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon, has two: Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Black Butte Porter. Other examples of a flagship beer include Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale, New Belgium's Fat Tire Amber Ale and Dogfish Head's 60 Minute IPA. According to the Brewers Association any flagship beer must be an all malt beer.
When we visited Sierra Nevada's brewpub in Chico, California, the first beer we ordered was their flagship Pale Ale.

One of my favorite beers is Anchor Steam Beer, the flagship beer of Anchor Brewery.

Beer Beard

The required unkept facial hair required for guys to have in order to work in a brewery, micro brewery, or to be a beer "aficionado". Can easily be confused with hipsters or some unemployed slob. Although, one comes to find out that some of them are actually hipsters.
I was rejected entrance into the local micro brewery because I was clean shaven. More importantly, I didn't have the mandatory beer beard. You can't try to do something crazy like being and making choices yourself these days.

Up the Beers

A shout-out for everyone to drink one's beer; to turn's one's beer up(side down) as in chugging. Similar to the shout-out 'Cheers' but with more implied emphasis on chugging one's beer.

A modulation of 'bottoms up'.
"Up the Beers!" <everyone proceeds to toss their beers back in such as fury as to have them upside down; as to chug.>
