The 'Russian Deadline' refers to the commonly made promise of the Russian Federation, specifically Vladimir Putin, on the deadline of military offensives. Similar to the Russian idiom 'China's Final Warning' (in Russian: последнее китайское предупреждение), the Russian Deadline is not completed by the date given, and in fact tends to go far over.
Examples of this include the beginning of the war in Ukraine, when Putin had told the press that the invasion would take a matter of a few weeks. - It has now been 2.5 years.
Another example, although incomplete, is the recent statement from Putin that he "has ordered the Ukrainian armed forces to be pushed out of the Kursk region by October 1st". - As a solid counter offensive has yet to even be constructed, this is highly sceptical.

My professor at UofT said we need to hand in our papers by Friday, but we all know that’s a Canadian deadline. I’ll ask for an extension until next month, and come up with some excuse for it.

Etymology: At the end of WW 2, when the British were about to overrun the German Nazi's, the Nazi's often sought to eliminate all evidence of their crimes in the internment camps. This evidence also included the prisoners. They were put in a line and killed, which had to be done before the British arrived.

A feeling or attitude that sports GMs get around the trade deadline that often makes them agree to trade deals that they would normally have rejected.
Sports fan 1: What? Why did they trade him?
