Yankee

1. In the southern states, the term YANKEE is used to identify someone from a northern state, especially those that happen to be from NY. Some southern folk dislike yankees because they assume that the northerners are rude individuals. I think its just a misunderstanding of cultures.
2. When a New Yorker travels to another state, they may refer to themselves as a "yankee" to let everyone know that they are from the same place as the all time best baseball team in the world (not boston...they suck)
1. "BAMA": Say folk, you talk funny. You ain't from down hurr. You must be a yankee.
"YANKEE": Nah son, I aint from these parts, im from Brooklyn.

Yankee

A term many native Texans and southerners regardless of background use to describe people mostly from the upper Midwest and especially the northeast, usually Maryland and above. The western half of the United States, even far north states like Montana, Washington, and Alaska, are rarely taken into consideration because of their frontier nature and lack of accents. To Texans and southerners, Yankees are viewed as unfriendly, shrewd, indifferent, uppity, blunt, and a threat to their genial, warm, welcoming, and down home culture, which many Yankees view as intruding, a threat to privacy, and fake. Many well to do Yankees have migrated to Florida and Texas as retirement havens.

yankee

A person from the Northern part of the United States of America who carries on the long Yankee history of activism and reform. These include the movements to abolish slavery, and the suffragist movement to acquire equal rights for women (See: Harriet Beecher Stowe, Yankee Abolitionist and Susan B. Anthony, Yankee Suffragist). Logic, reasoning, and education are valued highly by Yankees and used to champion freedom and equality for all Americans. Yankees have a strong sense of civic duty and culturally are known for straight-forwardness, time management, frugality, and thinking on their feet. Ivy League schools in the North are often associated with Yankees and have yielded many of America's top leaders and thinkers.
"The Yankee abolitionists welcomed slaves from the South that had traveled the Underground Railroad."

yankee

Yankee or Southerner (or a redneck) does not depend on where the ‘body’ was physically born! There are a lot of Yankees that were born in the South and have abandoned the south and all of its culture, moving to the north! Just the same, there are people who were born in northern states who have moved to the South and cherish the South, its culture and its history! Some are more southerners than some born in the South who have ‘lost their love of their culture and history’ because of the misinformation, lies, and propaganda they are ‘fed with’ in the US education system! The real ‘redneck southerners’ are those not poisoned with such crap, that passes off as ‘intelligence’, but is usually just ‘smart stupidity’! Yankee or Southerner depends more on where the heart is, than where one was born or where they were originally from!
Politicians and newscasters from the south who have forsaken their 'southern accents' and other parts of their great culture, for the ways of the yankee, usually for the good job and money! Is it really worth it?
