When something is "cutting edge" is is at the current limits of scientific/technological/artistic progress. The newest and most advanced.

In 1903, the Wright Brothers used what were then cutting edge techniques, such as a wind tunnel, to design their plane.

This magazine is so cutting edge! It's so much cooler than those conservative, out-of date newspapers.

It's like you are getting dragged or called out. So if someone insults you they're coming for your edges. So if someone is coming for your edges they just metaphorically snatched your hairline with their insult.

example 1:
boy: you suck at spelling.
girl: chill I'm not an English major
boy: I'm not an English major either but I know how to spell.
girl: why you coming for my edges like that

example 2:
girl: you need to get some Clearasil for your busted ass forehead

Edgeflake

A variation of a basement dweller, makes "edgy" remarks, typically based on alternative facts, to try to shock but reveals the underlying snowflakeness, irresponsibility, emotional weakness, or general stupidity of the individual.

Edgeflake: How come if a girl smacks you and you punch her back, you're a monster, but if you slap a girl and she knocks you out, she's some hero...

Edgeflake: Black people saying the N-word is fine, but if white people do it, we are racist. What about freedom of speech?

Normal person: You're such an edgeflake.

Edgenuity

The spawn of Beelzebub that even he was afraid of, and banished it to the deepest ring of Treachery, never to be seen by mortal or hellspawn alike. But, that son of a bitch Dante had gone down there and found Edgenuity. So, thinking nothing of it, he brought it back to the world of mortals, where he unleashed it upon the masses. causing suffering to all who witnessed or experienced it. Realizing what he had done, he locked it away to never be seen. a few thousand years later, one of his descendants found Edgenuity and using black magic, converted it into an online 'education' site.
