as we traversed the rio grande and crossed the border into texas we treated ourselves to a celebratory glass of mexican wine.

Bum Wine Wednesday

More commonly referred to as “BWW”, Bum Wine Wednesday is a weekly tradition that originated at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. BWW essentially involves buying and consuming a range of "Bum Wines,” such as M/D 20 20, Wild Irish Rose or Thunderbird. Participants in BWW are encouraged (by tradition), after buying their Bum Wine for the night, to give their change to a homeless person before returning to campus or an off-campus location. The tradition is now practiced on college campuses across America, particularly in locations with particularly high homeless populations.

Tonight, we shall drink from the bottom of the bottle, for it is Bum Wine Wednesday, and we must tilt to the howl of these American streets.

"Happy Bum Wine Wednesday!" Exclaimed Jenny as she withdrew a silver coin from within the homeless child's sooten ear, placing it in his outstretched palm a-tremble.

barley wine 

A sweet, hoppy, strong beer brewed for real beer lovers. Barley "wine" simply refers to the high alcohol content, although Philistines often assume barley wine is wine and not beer. Apparently, these people think barley is a kind of grape. Often prefixed with the word "old".

Swine Wine

The elixir of pre-packaged, cheap Franzia box 'o wine wine often found at questionable college parties. The bag is held above the drinker's head while they drink. The term is derived from the fact that the bag is passed around the room, allowing everyone's lips to touch the bag. Thus, the germs are transfered to the wine.

Ed: "Joe slapped a bag of that swine wine last night"
Mike: "I heard he's in the health center with swine flu"
Ed: "Yeah that's what you get when you drink swine wine"
