Salem, MA

One of the tougher cities in Massachusetts, Salem is well known for their historic witch trials, but is now more commonly known for their dominance in basketball from the middle school level and all through the high school level. Neighborhoods in Salem range from the ghettos of Massachusetts with gangs and guns, to middle class neighboorhoods with nice homes.

You know you're in Salem, MA if you hear the conversation

Salem High School

Part of the famous P-CEP, or "The Park," in Canton, Michigan. PCEP has the largest high school campus in the United States and is composed of Canton High School, Plymouth High School, and the best of the three, Salem High School. Salem was the first high school built on the college-sized campus in 1970, then called Plymouth-Salem High School. We are the Salem "Rocks" because of the large rock in front of the building. Some make fun of our mascot, but that is because they are too blind to see the originality. They also might be jealous of our great turn around for sports. We are also the only school at the Park with a State Championship in football. Some notable alumni include, American actor, chef, and fiancé of Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka as well as all four members of the band TwentyForSeven. I could go on and on about how great Salem is, I love being a Rock!

Same-Same-But-Different Singapore Math

When the methodology and pedagogy used in Singapore math textbooks and supplementary titles (foreign and local editions) at the same grade are believed or perceived to be equivalent, yet the level of difficulty of the brain-unfriendly questions in both editions differs significantly—the tailor-made overseas editions are often one or two grades lower than the local one.

US math educators need to take note of the same-same-but-different Singapore math titles to temper their expectations of their students’ mathematical proficiency compared to that of their Singaporean counterparts.
