Zeus chugged a flask of wine that, unbeknownst to him, had been spiked by Hermes with 100 proof ambrosia. Finding himself greatly inebriated and unshackled from all responsibilities, he slung an endless blitz of lightning bolts upon the mortal plane, causing great destruction and hardship for the few survivors.
