When over time you can drink slightly more than you normally can before you feel ill. A sign of alcohol addiction.

My alcohol tolerant levels have gone up. A year ago I was smashed after two glasses of wine. Now it takes me a whole bottle to get wasted.

alcohol 

A legal intoxicant. Alcohol is more or less yeast's piss, yet some people drink it like water. I really don't see why it deserves to be legal. If the gov't weren't making money from it then it certainly wouldn't be. Alcohol kills more people than all of the other illegal drugs combined, and that's not even including its indirect deaths. Many people, if not everyone, seem to think alcohol is harmless simply because it's legal and many people do it. It causes a considerable amount of damage to the brain and liver. Despite this, people who consume alcohol have told me marijuana will kill my brain cells. I always get a kick out of that.

Person B: No thank you, I'd much rather enjoy a blunt to the dome.
Person A: Fuckin pothead! You're frying your brain you know!!!!!!!!!

fetal alcohol syndrome 

This refers to brain damage (in the form of permanent retardation) caused by a fetus being exposed to alcohol via the alcoholism of the mother. This is not to be confused with child abuse, which can also cause retardation and brain damage and be caused by alchoholism, but which involves children, which are alive, rather than fetuses, which are not fully alive, and thus inferior. Also not to be confused with the similar concepts of "crack babies" or "meth babies," which are completely unsubstantiated (and widely denounced, by those professionals who study such things) allegations propagated by the Church of Voodoo Pharmacology.

The phrase can be used as an explanation for unusually retarded behavior. See alcohol in the blood surrogate.

alcoholics anonymous 

A group of people that sit at the bar all day just a few feet apart, but yet don't know each other.

"Yes, I belong to Alcoholics Anonymous. No one at the bar I frequent knows who anyone else is." We don't talk while we drink, and therefore remain anonymous.
