Raining cats and dogs

As correctly stated, this is a literal phrase dating from 17th century England. Back in the day, peasants used what little land they owned for crops and such, so could not afford to keep cats and dogs on their land. As a result, people used to keep their animals on the thatched roofs of their cottages. When it rained heavily, the thatching became very perilous and slippery, causing the cats and dogs to fall off!

Destruction of cats are a group of delinquent vandals who call themselves 'artists'. They spray painted sexually graphic images of cats on my business, a pet shop for godsakes. They are troublemakers and a testament to the scourge we call youth today. I tracked them back to their facebook page by their name, so if you find them on there, please consider doing your civic duty and report these criminals so we can get them off the internet and way from the impressionable minds of our societies future.

Holy Cats!

An expression of sheer and utter disbelief. Derived from the more common expression "Holy Cow!" (which is of Hindi origins).

Etymologists have tracked the phrase to a specific household in Colorado, where two (and perhaps more) males have been recorded using the expression. It is rumoured that the expression will soon inexplicably spread throughout much of Cambridge, MA.

"Holy Cats! I still have a lot of work left to do on my thesis!" quipped one of said Colorado natives.
