rap

rap; verb, rapping; adverb, the intricate artform of writing lyrics and spitting them to the sickest beat you can make or get your hands on.
some people say that rap is just people "talking" into the microphone,
well anyone who's heard more than a couple of the mainstream "hip-hop" songs, not real rap will of course say this because they usually don't give it the time of day.
however, bands such as Kotton mouth kings, a band formed on the ideals of smoking weed are a perfect example of a good "rapper".
example of normal critic:
rap is crap, it's 75% of it at least.
har-har-har!

example of lyrics to prove them wrong:

I’ve been diggin into crates ever since I was livin in space,
Before the rat race, before monkeys had human traits,
I mastered numerology and big bang theology,
Performed lobotomies with telekinetic psychology,
Invented the mic so I could start blessin it,
Chin-checkin' kids to make my point, like an impressionist.

a.k.a. NOT MUSIC. The worst kind of "music" next to reggeatone. (notice i use the term "music" mighty loosely) Black people use it to get their surpremacist messages across and to talk about their sex life... or lack thereof. Rap is not music, as it takes no talent to produce, let alone perform. No instruments are used and therefore no talent is needed. All one needs is a thing for rhyming and the ability to talk fast and somewhat rythmically... which damn-near anyone can do.

All rap is about is promotion of sex, drugs, and generic crime. It glorifies gangs and somehow it has captured the hearts of youth. It is best described as the Devil's Music.
Rap is not music. It takes no talent. If you like Rap, FUCK YOU! Rock is by far superior to your urban shit!

Rap

The crappiest music ever created. It takes no talent to make it, all it talks about is shooting niggas and having sex. The artists can't think of new songs so they copy off of each other.
In some cases they have even copied other music genres.

The people that listen to it dress like retards, by wearing T-shirts that are 3 times their size, letting their pants hang down under their ass so everyone can see their underwear, and they leave the tags on their clothing. So you can easily recognize a rapper because they look like idiots that never learned how to buy the right sized clothing, or even peel the tag off.
Rapper: Yo what's up my nigga, you heard the new rap song by 50 cent.

Person: Pull your pants up you faggot!

Rap...ahh Retards Attempting Poetry...

Rap SUCKS and it always did. It's not music...it's pure garbage...filthy deragatory vile crap. Rappers are the biggest EMOS on earth. All they do is complain about their life and so called struggles...if you commit crimes shitdip you OBVIOUSLY will struggle. Rap only promotes violence, sexism, materialism, and increases the crime rate everywhere. Nowhere is safe. Black people...good luck because it's only going downhill for you people. You buying Sean John, Rocawear, and all those other clothing brands that rappers wear only fill up their pockets...while you're broke as a joke trying to make ends meet. How is rap positive? Someone please explain that to me because I hear that all the time...no matter of fact don't bother because I don't have time to waste...rap sucks...end of story.
Rap is the worst thing ever invented in the history of mankind.

rap

1. Not Soulja Boy/50 Cent.
2. The most hated mainstream genre because of the two above.
3. Actually has/had good artists - 2pac, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DMX, Public Enemy, Immortal Technique, Eminem, Xzibit...
Person 1: I hate rap... it's stupid and meaningless.

Person 2: You must be talking about Soulja Boy.. ever heard anything beside mainstream crap such as he does?

Do not judge rap by what you see on tv like those douche-bags moon knight, and JM, and everyone else who thumbes uped there horribly inaccurate definitions. The first definition by "The Intelligent"is very well done and directy proves the shitty definitions i mentioned earlier wrong.

rap

A genre of music where poetry is delivered verbally in tune with a beat, sometimes music, that includes many other techniques such as wordplay, repetition, paradoxes, onomatopoeia's, metaphors and many other figurative languages.

Rap tends to not follow the rules of many other genres of music. It sometimes doesn't have a chorus or a hook like other genres of music do and it's one of the only genres where vocals (such as singing) aren't really used.

It's also a genre that is disliked by many (mostly non-African Americans) for many reasons. Many say it's stupid and only talk about money, bitches, ho's, cars and etc. But that's mainly because the majority of the population tends to listen to mainstream music and don't understand the truth behind record producers and the deals they put out regarding topics a certain individual must make a song about.

If you listen to many underground rappers, independent rappers or rappers that have deals that give them freedom to rap about what they want (i.e. Ice Cube, Tyler, the Creator, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, J. Cole, Tupac), you'll notice the change in their lyrics from many mainstream rappers (i.e. Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, OJ the juice man).

In my opinion rap is one of the most difficult forms of music genre to create the music for because of how much figurative language is actually used in the music, the continuous flow of words with long verses, and the many rhyme schemes it must follow, unlike many other genres.
Wordplay: "Put her in a 'lake, her' body sinks great,
Now it's time to 'fish her' like Derek" ~Tyler the Creator, Tron Cat
(Derek Fisher plays for the Laker's basketball team)

Metaphor: "Will I make if from student loans to a ben-zo
Like old folks pissing I guess it all depends" ~Kanye West, Late
(Depends is a brand of adult diapers)

Symbol: "Ay Salle, I know I ain't been answering your calls, but shit, let me explain-
It's because times been hard, been runnin around trynna find a job
I hear my phone ringing in the morning, 9 o'clock
And it's you, can't even front I press ignore..." ~J. Cole, Dollar and a Dream II
(Throughout this whole verse in this song, Salle actually symbolizes a form of college Loan that J. Cole took out for college. He makes it seem like it's a girl when it's really the bill collectors for the Sallie Mae loan he took out)

Paradox: Tyler, the Creator- "Green paper, gold teeth, and pregnant gold retrievers, all I want,
Fuck money, diamonds and bitches don't need 'em" - Yonkers,
"I'm not a rapper, nor a rapist or a racist,
I fuck bitches without permission and tend to hate shit" - Tron Cat.
(Green paper is often used as slang for money, gold teeth are grills which usually contain diamonds and a pregnant gold retriever is obviously a female dog, which is the true definition of a bitch.
Obviously Tyler is a rapper, fucking woman against their will is a rapist and hating things could mean hating a certain race, something racist do.)
