indieviduals

Indieviduals are what I have started to call all of the hipster kids these days that are anything but individual. Most of them go out to see movies like "Juno" because they think that it is an independent film, which will earn them indie cred. However, they buy into movies and music like that, which are funded by major production companies, making them completely mainstream. These kids go to websites (completely mainstream ones) to buy their "indie" clothes and find out exactly what music their "indie" cult is listening to that week. It is absolutely pathetic to me that any person can throw on a peacoat and a messenger bag, pop the spill canvas into their cd player, drink some 20-word long coffee drink, and call themselves and individual. I think that these days, any kid who just wears their old navy basics and listens to music like the police and the rolling stones is an individual just because they don't buy in to all of that crap that mainstream labels have labeled "INDIE."

Indievidual #1: What are you planning on doing today? I think I'll just read my super alternative copy of Nylon.

Indievidual #2: I'll probably just keep sipping on my grande soy non-fat decaf columbian latte with three pumps of passionfruit sweetening syrup and then catch a matinee of Juno, then listen to dropkick murphys, since they're super indie, you probably haven't heard of them, though

Indievidual#1: (while totally lying) Oh, I have, they're really good.

Indie Whore

Girl/Guy that is obsessed with "indie music". Thinking Coldplay, Owl City, and Nevershoutnever, are the most indie bands out there. Will use itunes, and MTV to find bands that are "interesting and new" even though they are mainstream. Wear pure cardigans, because they think it will make them seem unique. They think they know all about music, but are fakes, and whore out good bands, to try to seem cool.

Indie Whore- Oh, have you heard that new song "Vanilla Twilight" by Owl city?

Actual Indie Lover- I heard that song 2 years ago, before Adam Young was a sellout, and wasn't so mainstream.

Bron is an indie bro and can often be found at indie concerts wearing plaid flannel shirts and dark denim jeans. When he isn't drinking at a concert venue, he's at frat parties at UC Santa Cruz, even though he graduated from there 7 years ago.

indie

Indie started out as being an individualist (hence the name indie), wearing what you want and listening to what you like (but mostly unheard of or obscure bands) but now has become more of a fashion which some people like and others do not.
British Indie is sort of a mix between mod and punk. The style of a mod and the attitude of a punk. The music listend to is the smiths, blur,the cure and bands which are heavily influenced (by agian, mod and punk bands) like the libertines, the others, the cribs, the coral, the paddingtons and bloc party amoungsed many others.

dad: Who do you think you are? Paul Weller?
mum: No, he thinks he's Joe Strummer!
gran: look at ya with ya scruffy jeans and messy hair. in my day you'd get a good sound thrashing if you went out like that!

indie kid

a teenager (usually) who prefers smaller bands too huge sell-out stadium rockers. Nowadays known for stage invasions and energetic bands. Generally thought of as an new thing, but has actually got roots to the eighties with the Smiths and Joy division etc. Wear small shirts and skinny jeans generally but you get variants as diverse as charity shop and the like (Larrikin Love example) and smart blazers and suits (Maximo Park). Called Indie as they like individual music and try to DIY everything.

Indie kid: I love Shut Your Eys and You'll Burst Into Flames and have tickets for their next 13 gigs.

indie poser

Usually a really rich brat who tries to act like they love the environment even though they drive a Toyota SUV. They constantly talk about going to college in Colorado and try to make radical statements which are often not radical in any shape or form. They also use polaroid instant cameras and use film cameras for taking their facebook or myspace profile pictures. They are normally underage and act like they will be the one that will change the world. They also constantly talk about the Beatles, John Lennon, and The Flaming Lips.

"So did you hear that Alex is going to Colorado for college?"

"Yea and his parents are letting him take his 4Runner, he'll fit in really well with all those other indie posers."
