Trigger-baiting is the act of deliberately creating content designed to provoke a strong emotional response, typically anger or outrage, in order to boost engagement or farm for views through algorithm-driven exposure.

Trigger-baiting people can be harmful, especially when it leads to online bullying and harassment.

This video was clearly made to trigger-bait people and boost the creator’s views and engagement stats.

Any social media video (likely on TikTok) whose entire purpose is to “bait” the viewer into searching a specific term or phrase, likely NSFW topics/accounts.

Geoffrey: “Hey, did you see jang’s new video about things you should never search up?”
Victor: “I honestly hate hate his videos - all he’s doing is creating search bait.”

Red-Baiting

A logical fallacy that consists of making an accusation that some person is a communist, often with the aim of discrediting them. It can also be used to discredit an idea. It's most used in politics, often by right wingers when discrediting anything slightly left leaning.

Red-Baiting can be boiled down to: "Anything I don't like is communist!"

Mental Bait

Mental baiting is a different kind of baiting (such as rage bait), when you use mental baiting it is to make someone else think that you yourself is an idiot or just dumb generally.

Example: saying ”Yung Lean is bad, has no fantasy and does the same shit all the time” is mental bait

Trying to make another person jealous by posting things they can see to provoke them.

Person 1 has a major crush on person 2
Person 2 knows about Person 1 being inlove
Person 2 posts a tweet ”Just got a new partner” to make Person 1 jealous even though Person 2 does not actually have a partner and Person 2 is only jealous baiting
