Spite Hype

Spite Hype is when a piece of media is hyped up not because of it's quality, but out of spite for another piece of media.

Fans of media that is spite hyped typically are jaded fans of another piece of media, or just outgrew that piece of media and can't accept it. They often act elitist or snobbish to fans that still enjoy the piece of media they are jaded of.
Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, Palworld, and Digimon Time Stranger are examples of games that grew in popularity because of spite hype.

Nintendo Hate Grifter

A YouTuber that dedicates their channel mostly hating on Nintendo or Nintendo fans for the sake of money or clout, rather than actual concern for the direction the company is going. They will post daily nonstop videos bashing Nintendo because the algorithm benefits from negativity and upload frequency. They either made their channels specifically to hate on Nintendo, or shifted their channel focus to hating Nintendo when it became the popular thing to do. Calling them out for grifting will lead to you being labeled a shill or a bootlicker, regardless of if you agree or disagree with Nintendo's decisions.

Note: Criticising Nintendo's anti-consumer actions doesn't automatically make you a grifter. Problems arise when your criticism turns into a content farm for the algorithm.

How to tell if someone is a Nintendo Hate Grifter:

-Near-Daily Uploads Hating on Nintendo or its fans
-Use of AI in thumbnails
-Misinformation that can be debunked by a Google search ("You don't own the console", "$90 Games")
-They began hating Nintendo after the whole $450 Switch 2 situation
-Their content style is similar to other Nintendo Hate Grifters
"Nintendo Hate Grifters have made it hard to tell if a video criticising Nintendo was made out of genuine concern or just because it's trendy."

Goonmers

Gamers that care way too much about the attractiveness of female characters in video games (or fiction as a whole). Whenever an "ugly" (aka slightly realistically portrayed) female character is shown, they will throw a shitfit about how "woke DEI feminism is making women ugly" and how "western gaming is dying". Goonmers fuel the stereotype of gamers being basement dwelling losers who haven't felt the touch of a women, which is funnily enough an accurate description of them.
Games like The First Descendant attract a lot of goonmers.

Nintendo Derangement Syndrome

Nintendo Derangement Syndrome (NDS) is a term to describe a condition where individuals lose all sense of objectivity and rationality when discussing Nintendo specifically those who obsessively hate the company. This often leads to exaggeration, misinformation, double standards, and bizarre emotional reactions whenever Nintendo is even mentioned. It's much more prevalent ever since the Switch 2 Launch.

You're allowed to dislike & criticize Nintendo. NDS kicks in when that dislike tums into obsession. misinformation, or irrational rage especially when you start acting like people enjoying a game is a personal attack on you.

Symptoms of Nintendo Derangement Syndrome:
• Compulsive Lying about Nintendo sales, hardware specs, or game quality
• Goalpost Shifting when proven wrong
• Downplaying Critical or Commercial Success
• Calling Fans Cultists while foaming at the mouth about a 40-second Nintendo Direct trailer
• Using Piracy or Emulation as a Moral Crusade
FritangaPlays clearly has Nintendo Derangement Syndrome if he dedicated 3 months of uploads to shit on Nintendo and the Switch 2.

Pokémon Nostalgia Cycle

A phenomina in the Pokémon Community. About 8-10 years after a generation of Pokémon releases, the people who grew up with the generations start glazing the games to death. Sometimes generations are skipped in the cycle (like Gen 2 and Gen 6) and usually join another generation's fans (like Gen 2 fans joining Gen 4 fans due to HGSS).

The cycle started off with Genwunners in the early 2000s-early 2010s, then Gen 3 fans in 2013 with "Hoenn Confirmed!", then Gen 4 fans/Sinnohfetuses in 2017, and then Genfivers in 2021. It will likely shift to Gen 7 fans in a year or two since Pokémon Sun and Moon turns 10 next year.
"I've seen people praising Gen 7 online more recently. Is the Pokémon Nostalgia Cycle shifting again?"

Free Speech Absolutist

Someone who claims to defend the Freedom of Speech to hell and back, while not understanding how it actually works.

They claim that social media companies taking down TOS violating content is a violation of the right to free speech, but in reality social media companies are private companies, which aren't bound by the First Amendment. This means that they can set up their own boundaries of what is and isn't okay to say on their site.

Despite them complaining how they are being censored online, most of the time they don't actually care about Free Speech, and just want to spread extremist views online without punishment.

There are social media sites that cater to these people (like Twitter), but they usually become Nazi echo chambers filled with toxicity.
What Free Speech Absolutists don't get about social media is that they are private companies and can set boundaries on what is and isn't okay without it being a violation of The First Amendment.

Red-Baiting

A logical fallacy that consists of making an accusation that some person is a communist, often with the aim of discrediting them. It can also be used to discredit an idea. It's most used in politics, often by right wingers when discrediting anything slightly left leaning.
Red-Baiting can be boiled down to: "Anything I don't like is communist!"
