A derogatory term used by people to describe an overly sexual, sleazy behaviour. Usually used to describe women (Though occasionally used towards men), it is considered quite offensive. It is often that it is used to shame women for wearing revealing clothes or showing any semblance of liking sex. It can be said that this is rooted in the extremely old-fashioned idea that women who have sex drives are shameful, or evil. Regardless, it a dumb term that we as a society should just move on from but won't for a long time because these weirdly sexist ideas are still so deeply rooted in our every day lives that we barely notice them.
Rachel: "Doesn't Alicia seem kind of like a slut to you? I mean... she sleeps with so many guys, and look at what she's wearing!"
Mary: "I dunno, she seems like a generally cool person, I don't see why she should be judged by how many dudes she's fucking and what she likes to wear."
Rachel: "But doesn't it kind of bother you how she's cool to have sex with whoever?"
Mary: "I don't see how her sex life is any of my business."

now coming to be a term to define people who are proud and open about their sexual activity and/or showing their body. slut has a history of defining women specifically and mostly been used to shame women especially for being sexual in any way. since it has very controversial definitions now, lots of people use the term negatively while there are more and more people celebrating the term & calling people slut as a compliment of their confidence.
Ingrid: so what did you guys do?
Sam: we hooked up last night, honestly the best time ever. he was so nice and made me comfortable to be adventurous. we had the best convo about body image and how greek mythology plays into part of modern attractiveness.

a slut is a derogetory term , used in many ways to 'put a girl down'. it isnt something any respectable person would say, it is probably one of the nastiest things you could say about a woman.
1. a pretty girl who the male sex are fond of, much to the disgust of jealous girls.
